On May 16, Veterans and staff at the Charlotte VA outpatient clinic were honored with a visit from Vice Admiral (VADM) Kevin M. McCoy. VADM McCoy is the Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), which is comprised of command staff, headquarters directorates, affiliated Program Executive Offices (PEOs) and numerous field activities. NAVSEA is the largest of the Navy’s five system commands, with a fiscal year budget of nearly $30 billion, which represents one quarter of the Navy’s entire budget.
During his visit, VADM McCoy met with Dr. Kathleen Wolner, medical director, and staff for an overview of services offered at the clinic, followed by a tour of the facility. Areas visited included imaging, primary care, endo/minor outpatient surgery and mental health. He also visited with Veterans who were reporting for appointments, and thanked them individually for their military service.
VADM McCoy was in Charlotte to participate in the Military Awareness Week activities sponsored by Mecklenburg County and Community Area Resource Team for Troops (CARTT). Following his visit to the Charlotte VA clinic, he was the special guest speaker at the Armed Forces Career Expo, held at the Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center. He provided information about the NAVSEA Wounded Warrior Program and employment opportunities. For more information, visit www.navsea.navy.mil.
